  2. Daily Schedule • Every subject every day for 45-50 minutes depending on the day • Recess 10:28-10:48 • Lunch 12:10-12:50 • P.E. M, T, W, & F 1:40-2:05 • Music—Tues. 9:45 – 10:25 and Fri. 8:00-8:40

  3. Common Core Curriculum Standards The Common Core Curriculum Standards (CCCS) are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.

CCCS Goals • Designed to ensure the skills necessary to communicate and operate in today’s universal and digital world through the fostering of critical thinking and problem solving. • Foster the acquisition of knowledge through multiple sources with an emphasis on information sharing through technology .

English/Language Arts • Our focus will be on reading strategically for greater understanding. • Reading to a greater depth and complexity of ideas. • Recognizing organizational structures of text. • Moving beyond “I know” to “This is how I know based on the evidence…” • Evaluating what is read by thinking critically about the author’s intention, prior knowledge, what has already been stated, etc.

Social Studies Gathering relevant information from a variety of sources both independently and collaboratively for research Compare and contrast people, customs, traditions and regions of Early America through the American Revolution In depth study of the cause and effect relationships which link to historical events Topic focus: The First Americans, Age of Explorations, Life in the Colonies, Causes of the American Revolution In depth focus, information gathering and research on: The Role of Slavery in Colonial North America and Understanding the Declaration of Independence

Mathematics • Develop an inquiry relationship with math. • Work on mathematical tasks that are complex, involve more than one method, and often, not always, represent real world problems and applications. • Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. • Reason abstractly and quantitatively. • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. • Model with visual representations and mathematics.

Math Content: Students will work on math tasks which begin with a foundational understanding and be provided the opportunity to reach a high ceiling – so that students are constantly challenged and working at the most appropriate level. We will move through the math textbook so that similar concepts will align and build on each other. Look for assignments that require your child to show their work and explain in writing how they arrived at the answer. Students will be asked to talk about and prove their understanding of various concepts.

  14. Writing The writing components will be shared across the subject areas Language Arts - Summary, Narrative , and Response to Literature/Opinion writing Social St. and Science – focused Research Reports and Opinion Writing. Math – Math Journals
