Factors influencing communication • Context • The situation in which the communication takes place • Interpretation • This is often where miscommunication happens • Feedback • Role of Sender and Receiver change during any conversation • Barriers • Obstructions • Semantics • The meaning (or interpretation of the meaning) of words • Jargon • Vocabulary particular to a particular trade, profession or group

  5. Driving • Faster paced • Swift, efficient and to the point • Uses time in a disciplined matter • Seen as active and determined • Impatient with delays • Know what they want

  6. Expressive • Likes to be involved • Makes decisions quickly • Imaginative and creative • Tends to act impulsively

  7. Amiable • Informal, Casual, Easy-Going • Tends to avoid conflict • Good team player • Sticks to what is comfortable and ‘the known’ • Uses time in an undisciplined manner • Develops effective social networks

  8. Analytical • Cautious, Careful and thorough • Quiet, Logical, and Reserved • Very disciplined with use of time • Reluctant to make decisions • Slow paced • Very Well-Organized
