About the Borough • Ashford largest borough/district in Kent – has growth area status • 90% of the borough is rural • 41% of population live in rural area • 15 of the 35 wards in the borough are rural, with 38 parishes • By 2016 estimated that 1 in 5 of population will be aged 65 or over • Good record of local needs housing delivery • 313 units built with further 22 under construction • Tenterden and Rural Sites DPD

  3. The aim of the project To provide mixed tenure, self contained accommodation (with support), for older people with some shared facilities (which can also benefit the wider community) to serve a number of nearby parishes.

Getting the project off the ground • Anecdotal evidence from Parish Councils • Presentation at Rural Conference - June 2008 • Expressions of interest invited from Parish Councils - August 2008 • Clusters formed - November 2008 • First ‘Cluster’ meeting held - January 2009 • Visit to Five Villages House, Icklesham - April 2009 • Presentations to parishes by housing associations – July 2009 • Visit to Joseph Hadlum Court, Housing 21 extra care scheme in Ashford
