  3. What Was It, Exactly? • Period of mass fear • People believed women were witches working for Satan • Result: at least 24 people died as a result of Trials accusing of Witchcraft

  4. When Was It? • Happened in June to September of the year 1692. • Colonization of America was still in its early stages.

  5. Where Was It? • The trials occurred in the State of Massachussetts, in the township of Salem.

  6. Why Did It Happen? • People believed Satan recruited witches to spread evil • Times were tough, which made people ready to believe Satan was active

  7. How Did It Affect The People? • Hysteria spread rampantly, all in fear of the influence of Satan • Many accused others of witchcraft • Gave people something to blame for tough times
