Design of CCD Array Detector for a Czerny-Turner Spectrograph Brennan Thomason Tamara Reed Edmond Wilson
Project Goal • Design a detector for a high resolution spectrograph that provides electromagnetic radiation intensity data as a function of wavelength in the range of 400 nm to 1000 nm. • Compete in the National Student Solar Spectrograph Competition (NSSSC)
Design Objectives • Sensitive over entire visible range • Capable of high resolution measurements • Record data at a rapid rate • Easy to program • Detector must be robust
SONY ILX511 This device has 2048 CCD pixels, 14 μm wide x 200 µm high
Wavelength Calibration(Mercury Vapor Lamp) • Without a reference, it is difficult to make sense of the results we obtain. • By calibrating with a known spectrum such as mercury vapor, we obtain this reference point.
