Development of Cryogenic Detector Stage for High Resolution IR spectrograph Mark Ma Advisor: Dae-Sik Moon University of Toronto
Outline • Introduction • Design Requirements • Design • Tip/Tilt Stage • Translation Stage • Instrument interface and Stage actuation • What’s next
Introduction • What’s a detector stage? • Why do we need it? • How do we do it?
Design Requirements • What does the detector stage need to do? • How well do we need to do it? • How much will it cost?
Design • Modular • The three modules • Tip/Tilt stage • Translation stage • Instrument interface and Stage actuation
Tip/Tilt Stage • Traditionally Tip/Tilt has been mechanically complicated • Needs something simple and reliable • Tripod of piezoelectric actuators
Translation Stage • Up and down motion • Rigid under rotation • Balanced by symmetry • Automatically locks when the motor stops
Stage Actuation • Tip/Tilt Stage Actuation • SQUIGGLE SQ-100 • Translation Stage Actuation • PHYTRON VSS
Instrument Interface • Anchors the translation stage flexing blades • Attachment point to the host instrument • Modifiable as long as the octagon shape is maintained
Final Words • Work is continuing
