  1. Needs Assessment By Barrie Florko

  2. Innovation Model • Our building has received new technology through a grant to use in our building for the next three years. Our principal has been pushing teachers to implement these tools into their everyday teaching. The problem is that teachers need to learn how to use the technology to maximize the effectiveness of the programs.

  3. Technology • Turning Point is a new Program that works with the clickers we have in our building. This program actively engages students, provides teachers with an immediate feedback in terms of students assessment and background knowledge and it can be used in a variety of different ways. • Formative and Summative Assessment Tool • Reinforcement for that weeks lesson • Provides feed back to both student and teacher immediately • Motivating for students • Saves time for teachers/different interactive tool for students Provides a variety of applications that can be geared across the curriculum. Has a variety of levels for each learner in each subject area. Students can work at their own pace on each skill. This can be used as and extension tool before of after lesson. Can be used with turning point in the classroom also. Educational Application examples

  4. Instructional Needs • Technology is the future, and it is continually changing and teachers need to be aware of these changes so they can be prepared to implement these systems into the classroom setting. • As teachers we want to keep the learner engaged and actively participating and technology is a great source to use with students. For most students technology is part of their everyday life in most situations. • Current research describes the benefits of active learning approaches. Modern students are primarily active learners, out of touch with traditional lecture courses. 1

  5. Non- Instructional Needs • Time • Getting teachers to learn how to use the equipment, and use their prep time to create lessons. • Ease of use • Money/Writing Grants

  6. Learning Environments • Trainers • Teachers willing to guide other teachers through the use of the new technology. • Trainees • Teachers willing to implement it into their classrooms • Teachers have access to clickers and iPods in the office/library to check out for classes • Training Location • Each teacher has resources in their classroom to implement the new technologies ( doc camera projector, screen, application download)

  7. Learning Environment • Meadow Ridge Elementary School has 31 teachers (Mead School District has 561 teachers) • 75 % of teachers have their Masters Degree and 99 % are highly qualified in the Mead School District

  8. Learning Environments Current Technology • Classroom Computers (1-10 in each classroom) • Applications: Internet explorer, MAC safari/fire fox, discovery education, united streaming • Document Cameras • Clickers • IPod Touch • COW cart-( 30 laptop for classroom groups) • E-news letters • Twitter Updates
