Written consultation on the TEUs data provisions Written consultation launched by Eurostat with the two proposals: • for data already in the production database: the TEU figures for ITU types 2, 3, 9should be changed by Eurostat into empty (blank) fieldsand disseminated as '–' (not applicable) • for future data provisions (in tables A7 and A8 ): countries should leave empty (blank) the TEU figures for ITU types 2, 3 and 9 in orderto disseminate '–' (not applicable) Results of the consultation: • Out 28 countries, 19 countries provided feedback on this consultation • Out 19 countries, answers provided: • 17 countries agreed with both proposals • 1 country agreed with the second proposal only • 1 country agreed with the first proposal only Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics Agenda point: 9 Doc Rail-2009-8_1

Consequences on future data provisions • Two new validation rules will generate the following text whenevera problem is detected: • “TEUITU must be present in Tables A7 and A8 when TTU=1” — wherever the countries provide a null TEU value for “Containers and swap bodies” • “TEUITU must be empty in Tables A7 and A8 for the TTU= 2, 3 or 9” — wherever the countries do not provide a null TEU value for types of transport other than “Containers and swap bodies” Meeting of the Working Group on Rail Transport Statistics Agenda point: 9 Doc Rail-2009-8_1

Summary • For any future data provisions on TEU (Tables A7 & A8): • both, the number and TEU should be provided for TTU=1 • number of units and empty field for TEU should be providedfor TTU=2, 3, 9 • Eurostat intends to consult the countries on the possible changes to the data collection on ITUs (e.g. the feasibility of supplying additional data on ITU=2, 3, 9 carrying containers and swap bodies).
