Just like with the first declension the endings of the second declension help you understand what job the noun is doing in the sentence: Remember that in Latin all nouns have a gender either masculine, feminine, or neuter. ALL NOUNS THAT END IN –US IN THEIR NOMINATIVE SINGULAR ARE MASCULINE!

The noun in Latin is spelled differently if it is doing a different job. So when we are attempting to translate a Latin noun there is a multiple step procedure you will need to do to be able to correctly translate the word and eventually the sentence.
Now lets look at how this would work as we translate a sentence togther.
1. Find the verb and translate it. Filii Dei servos amant.
2. Translate the first word in the sentence.Remember to use the 6 step process. Filii Dei servos amant.

That is right The sonsUsually the first noun in a sentence will be the subject so it you ever have a question and it’s the first noun treat it like it is in the nominative case and is doing the job of the subject.
Now we do the same thing with the next two words in the sentence.
