Welcome to 5th Grade! Getting to know one another!
About me! • Have 2 children: 4 years old, and 7 years old. • Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education • Loves astronomy, drawing, playing guitar, and video games!
My expectations for everyone! • Why? Because I believe in each of you and we all can be successful. • I know that you all are smart and should not hear otherwise. “I can’t” stands for I completely admit I’m not trying. • You can do anything you try. • Expectations are posted in case you forget!
What are procedures? • Procedures are put in place for our classroom so you will know what is expected of you on a daily basis. • This will allow us to focus all of our attention on the intriguing world of science!
The Lightbulbs.. • The light bulbs are a way for us to track our behavior. • The class does what is expected.. They receive a rock… • At the end of the week the class with the most rocks win a reward..
Entering the Classroom Procedures • Come in quietly! • Put your things away! • Get your materials. (Listed on board) • Have a seat and get started on your assignment that will be on the board. • You work until I stop you!
Items from Home… • When you have letters or information from home, bring it to your seat with your materials and lay it on the top-right side of your desk. (Example) • I will come around and get it. There is no need to bring it to me!
Whose turn to talk? • We will all have the opportunity to talk. • When it is your turn, we will all listen. • When it is my turn, we will all listen. • When I say “Class” no matter what you are doing you stop and reply “Yes”. This shows me I have your full attention.
Volume Level • Discussions within the classroom should never become a loud roar. If your group is talking and you can barely hear your neighbor then your group knows they are becoming to loud. • When I say to decrease the noise level, I expect it to happen immediately. (Careful of me gaining to many points.)
Absence Procedures • I really and sincerely miss you when you are not here. No empty chairs! • Do your best never to be absent. I understand sometimes we get sick, but try to always be here. Remember that perfect attendance rewards are given out each year! • Get your absence sheet when you return! (Show)
Assembly Procedures • Come in quietly! • Sit appropriately • All hands and feet kept to yourself • Talking is not allowed during the presentation • Students follow directions and use appropriate applause!
Library Procedures • Shhh…. • No running! • Take care of the books!
Lunchroom Procedures • Have your ID cards ready! • Always use your manners • Talk quietly after eating silently • Stay seated until dismissed
Computer/Science Lab Procedures… • Come in silent! • Be safe! • Follow directions carefully. (Stay on task) • Take care of the supplies and equipment!
Line Up! • When lining up you should never be past the bulletin board on the wall. If you are past it then you are too close to the door. • If needed the line will wrap around the back of the room.
Recess Procedures • Silent going out/Silent coming in! • Careful! • Be responsible! • Treat each other kindly and fairly • Stay within boundaries! • When it is time to come in, Hurry!
Restroom Procedures • Any time you are in the hallway or restroom you should be silent. Chatter disrupts surrounding classrooms! • Go • Always flush • Wash your hands • Leave quietly!
Visitor/Substitute Procedures • When someone enters the classroom: immediately there should be silence so that I can hear what they have to say. • Continue on with your lesson. • I am rarely out, however if I am, please treat the substitute as respectfully as you treat me. I expect the same good behavior at all times.
Safe Zone Procedures • This classroom is a Safe Zone. • No one is allowed to say anything ugly about you or to you while you are here. • You are not allowed to talk about others, and others are not allowed to talk about you. • You are free to ask/answer questions, share your feelings, and be your true self. • If someone calls you a name or is negative to you, they will be asked to apologize and say three positive things about you. • We are a family unit in this class and anything you share will remain here.
Class-Yes / Teach-Ok • To get your attention I will say the word “class”. Your reply should be “yes”. When you say yes I should have your full attention and eyes on me. • Teach-Ok means that you will repeat to your partner the information that I just taught you. It is NOT a time to chatter about the day. (More on this)
Mirror…. • When you hear me say mirror.. You simply mirror what I am doing with my hands. • If you hear me say “mirror words”… then you mimic what I am saying and what I am doing with my hands..
Dismissal Procedures • Make sure you have everything that is yours and the area is clean. • Make sure that anything that was MINE is still on the desk when you leave and not in the floor. • Walk and remain quiet when switching classes. • You will wait for me to dismiss you, do not think you leave when you want.
Group Procedures • Work as a team, that’s why your in a group! • Make roles, and stick to them! • Talk quietly • Share the work! • Finish the assignment then chatter… not vice versa!
Questions? • Are there any questions about the procedures that I have explained to you?
Finally… • I am so happy to be here with you. • You are all very important to me!
