Constant Homework Wordly Wise Math Workbook, Handouts or online practice (EDMODO) 20 minutes of personal reading Less Constant Literature Packet Projects or special presentations. Homework Expectations50 or less minutes for 5th grade
Testing • Classroom testing will be more extended response than multiple choice. • Winter FCS benchmark – test date TBA • Georgia CRCT • Georgia Writing Assessment: an evaluation of each student’s response to an assigned prompt from a bank representing three genres: narrative, informational, and persuasive. Students are allowed approximately 120 minutes to write their essays.
Classroom Rules • Be Respectful – keep your hands, your feet, and your objects to yourself. • Follow directions the first time they are given. • Raise your hand for permission to speak. • Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. ALL Students are to follow the dress code.
How your Child will be Graded Formative – As your child progresses through his/her learning. (4-1) Four does not mean above standard. It means a deep understanding of the standard • Class work- Projects, Worksheets, Problem Solving • Homework- incomplete homework counts towards a conduct grade. Excessive zeros in this area will yield an N in conduct. Summative- These are the percentile grades that sum up your child’s learning. • Bi-monthly reading tests • Science/social studies tests • Math unit tests
Summative Assessment Re-tests • Students will be allowed ONE retest for each assessment. • Students eligible for a retest must participate in re-teaching and re-learning sessions and/or assignments as determined by the teacher. • Students will receive the higher of the two grades. • The purpose of allowing a retest is to ensure the mastery of standards.

What have we been doing? • Reading: forming groups, modeling testing format, pretesting, and application of skills in a novel as well as short form reading • Grammar – daily grammar practice (application of all standards) with mini lessons that guide instruction • Writing – building ideas, building background on opinion/persuasive writing, and learning how to plan • Social Studies – Bill of Rights, Webquest and anticipation guide for the Civil War, and creating our interactive notebooks
