ISLAM BELIEFS
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth: • And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: • Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary: • Suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead and buried: He descended into hell: • The third day he rose again from the dead: • He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty: • From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead: I believe in the Holy Ghost: • I believe in the holy catholic church: the communion of saints: • The forgiveness of sins: • The resurrection of the body: • And the life everlasting. Amen. In Christianity..
Christians profess our beliefs through… • The Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed In Christianity…
There is no one prayer that summarizes all the beliefs… • But there are six tenets of belief… In Islam…
Islam is a rational religion: “The vilest of creatures are those who choose to be deaf and dumb and do not use their reason.” (Qur’an 8:2) • Muhammad reminded his followers that “The first thing God created was reason”. Therefore, believers must take personal responsibility for one’s actions and faith. • Muslims are not called to compel anyone to believe what they believe; to surrender to God, is part of one’s “inner struggle”. Understanding Islam
Shahadah is the central prayer for Muslims. It states: • “There is no god but God and Muhammad is the Messenger of God” • He is defined as Eternal, Absolute, Infinite, Compassionate and Merciful, the sole Creator and Provider. Belief in one God.
Muslims believe God’s proper name is Allah. • It is preferred over other names because it has no gender affiliation and does not have plurality • Arabic Allah
Muslims believe in angels who exist and interact with humans. • Muslims believe in prophets that communicate God’s message. • Examples: Noah, Jesus, Moses, Abraham, Muhammad is the last and greatest of the prophets. Angels and Prophets
There are four inspired books: • The Torah of Moses • The Psalms of David • The Gospel of Jesus Christ (Injil) • The Qur'an. Muslims believe that all but the Qur'an have been interpreted and changed by Jews and Christians. Holy Scriptures
Muslims believe that every person has a soul that lives on earth for one lifetime and upon death of the body moves on to an afterlife. • God reconfigures the person’s body and decides if the person is sent to paradise or hell. Final Judgment Day
Paradise is described as an eternal abode of beauty and majesty • A just reward for people who have followed one God and lived a good life Hell is described as an abode of torment and anguish. According to Islamic tradition, God doesn’t want to send anyone to hell, but if a person chooses to live an evil life, you will be sent there. Paradise and Hell
Hell can be avoided by sincerely submitting to God and obeying His commands. • In the end, God will judge people’s actions by their intentions and motives. Determination of Good and Evil
