The Great Wall of China CLICK HERE • Located in N. china • The Great Wall of China (246 BCE/BC to 1644 CE/AD) was built to protect cities and keep out invaders from the north • Shi Huangdi (The first emperor of china) was responsible for instructing the Chinese to join the already formed walls of china into the great wall • Though a great architectural achievement, The great wall was not successful in keeping out invaders

INVADERS AND THEIR ABSORPTION INTO CHINESE CULTURE • The Mongols entered China through invasion (plundering), most notably after Genghis Khan unified the Mongols (1206-1227 CE/AD) • Genghis Khan’s influence included tolerance of many religions, creation of the Mongols' first script, support for trade and crafts creation of a legal code specific to the Mongols' pastoral-nomadic way of life • Kublai Khan (1260 to 1294 CE/AD) reinstated much of Chinese culture to ingratiate himself with the Chinese (his death was the end of Mongol Rule) CLICK HERE
