  7. Learning Commitments – help shape them… • GOAL: create a list of commitments to be successful leaders. • Each team will brainstorm THREE successful leadership behaviors we can commit to. Try to keep them short and sweet, yet cover all the key points. • Share and find common themes. • This class will have a poster of their leadership commitments.

  9. Sunny or Rainy • If Sunny, we will finish planting the trees in pots. AND write down a list of each variety and how many of each. • If Rainy, we will complete our leadership commitments poster. AND review safety concerns in horticulture.

  14. 9/17/12 Monday • Entry Task • Identify the hazards in this scenario: • Tom and JJ decide to install a 3 foot deep drainage ditch near the school. They see wires above and a sign “Call before you dig” but they figure school grounds are safe and begin digging anyway.

  15. SAFETY – controlling hazards ORDER OF PRIORITIES: • #1 - Remove the hazard • #2 - Improve work policies/procedures • #3 - Use protective clothing/equipment • Complete the safety worksheet front and back

  26. 10/1/12 Monday Week of 10/1 to 10/5 • Entry Task • What ways do you know of to make more plants out of one plant? • Read in Plant Book about Propagation….gather materials.

  27. 10/3/12 Tuesday • Entry Task • What safety considerations will we need to use when cutting plant parts with sharp tools? • Take notes on propagation!

  28. Propagation Techniques • How is layering done? • How do you propagate plantlets? • Climbers or trailers – pick a vigorous stem, pin it down in compost in a small pot (nick the stem first). After rooting, cut the stem. • Take the miniature plants and press it down into moist soil. After rooting, cut the stem.

  29. Propagation, continued • How are stem cuttings taken? • What about leaf cuttings? • How are divisions completed? • Choose a non-flowering shoot and cut it 3-6” long. Take leaves off bottom half. Slice bottom with razor blade. Dip in rooting hormone. Put in hole in soil and firm. • Similar to stem cuttings but use a leaf stem instead. • Knock plant gently out of container. Pull apart sections of the plant, leaving each with plenty of root.

  33. 10/8/12 Monday • Entry Task • You will be receiving participation points for daily effort from 5 to zero. • What behavior would deserve a • 5 - working whole period, no interruptions, good attitude, team player • 4 – ask to leave or quit early but otherwise good • 3 – not working whole period or bad attitude • 2 or less – barely working or bad attitude or worse. • Please turn in entry task sheet from last week. • Finish compost bin. • Work on large intake fan motors!

Think about light, air flow, water, heat, etc. • VERY IMPORTANT: PERMISSION SLIPS FOR FIELD TRIP. • DUE THIS THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11th!! • Finish large fan. • Hang small fans that we built. • Take down shade cloth.

You may highlight… • Tomorrow we will begin spider plant propagation – know that procedure well.

  47. 10/30/12 Tuesday • Entry Task • What did you learn about plantlet propagation in yesterday’s reading? • Describe “how to” propagate by plantlet. • Discuss surveys – you are each responsible to bring back TWENTY by the end of the week.
