Demonstration Research • 13 Demonstration Research Trials including: • Hydrangea Evaluation (Cullman County) • Poinsettia Cultivar Trial (Mobile County) • Fire Ant Demonstration (Chilton Coutnty) • Bedding plant evaluations (Chilton, Cullman and Lee counties) • Plant Growth Hormone Evaluation (Autugua County)
and Safety • 16 pesticide safety programs which include: • EPA Worker Protection Standard training • AL Private Pesticide Applicator Certification • AL Commercial Pesticide Applicator Training • Pesticide “amnesty” days • 734 Contacts • Eight Counties (Cleburne, Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Dallas, Marengo, Clay, Dale)
Horticultural Education Meetings • Led or participated in 42 commercial horticultural meetings • Over 4000 contacts in 14 counties (Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Dallas, Marengo, Clark, Conecuh, Jefferson, Chilton, Lee, Macon, Cleburne, Clay, Calhoun, Montgomery) • Two out-of-state meetings- Southeast Greenhouse (SC) and Deep South sHort Course (FL)

Mass Media • Mass media utilized through: • 24 newspaper articles either written or the result of directed contact • Promotion of programs and dissemination of pertinent information through 23 radio interviews • One televsion interview- promote demonstration research
Master Gardeners • 32+ Master Gardener meetings and classes • Over 900 Master Gardener contacts in 20 Counties : (Houston, Mobile, Baldwin, Barbour, Pike, Tuscaloosa, Covington, Elmore, Henry, Randolph, Autauga, Russell, Montgomery, Tallapoosa, Chambers, Cleburne, Lee, Marengo, Chilton, Dallas)
After Katrina • Cooperation between personnel from ACES and AAES housed in Mobile, AL • Determine local needs and assist with coordination of help • Develop accurate report of industry losses • Inform of disaster relief programs • Facilitated two public meetings to bring together nursery industry, relief agencies and government representatives

2005 Bedding Plant Trial Garden Field Days • Held at North Alabama Horticultural Substation and Chilton RREC • Trials demonstrate overall landscape performance of new and standard summer-flowering bedding plant cultivars • Cullman field day: attended by 150, growers, master gardeners, and allied industry representatives • Chilton RREC field day: attended by Over 1000 persons
