  5. What do we know about the ACT? • ACT standards are based on achievement. • What does that mean? • You don’t have to be Einstein to meet your college-ready benchmarks. The test is not based on how smart you are. It is based on what you have learned.

  6. What do we know about the ACT? • ACT benchmarks are set to determine with great accuracy if you will be able to make a C or better in a particular college course. • What does that mean? • If you make an 18 on the English portion, you have the skills to make at least a C or better in college. If you do NOT achieve benchmarks, you must take a remedial course for no credit.

  7. What do we know about the ACT? • You CANNOT fail the ACT!!!

  8. What do we know about the ACT? • What if I plan to attend TCAT? • TCATs in middle Tennessee have adopted the policy that you get credit for certain required courses if you reach a certain ACT goal. Discussions are currently being held with East Tennessee TCATs to hopefully offer you the same opportunity in the future.

  20. What are the deadlines and dates? It is not necessarily recommended that you take an official ACT until your junior year, but you can.

  21. What do we know about the NEW ACT features? • Starting September 2020, you will be able to take ACT sub tests on any national test date as long as you take one full-length ACT first. • You may take the ACT and or ACT sub-tests as many times as you would like. • You can take up to 3 at a time.

  22. What do we know about the NEW ACT features? • ACT will begin reporting superscores to colleges, meaning that ACT will average the highest score from each sub-test to report your composite. (It is unclear as to whether colleges will be required to accept superscores or a single composite.) • Only certain colleges take superscoresright now such as University of Tennessee Knoxville, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, University of Tennessee Martin, and other out of state schools. You can find a list here: file:///C:/Users/18652/Downloads/superscoredownloadablepdf.pdf . There may be more added to the list in the near future since ACT is reporting superscores.

  23. ACT Facts: • Registration for above test dates can be made online at act.org. • If you register and take the December, April or June exam, you can request your test booklet and answers for a small fee. This is highly recommended for follow up. • Cost to take the ACT is $52, except for the in-school tests in March and senior year October exam. They are paid for by the state of Tennessee Department of Education. • You can report your scores to up to 4 colleges each time you register for free. If you choose to report your scores later, it will cost $13 a school.
