  2. AGENDA • Students will take a tour of the building led by the Student Council, Cheerleaders, Ruff Riders, and Pom Squad. Parents will watch an informational PowerPoint. • Introduction of Administration, Counselors, Freshmen Teachers, Athletic Coordinators, and other LHS Faculty.

  3. AGENDA CONTINUED • After the student tour and the parent presentation students and parents will get an opportunity to walk around the building. • Students may accomplish the following tasks: • Students will take their picture for the ID badge in the library. • Students or parents look up schedule on gradebook and find classes. (A map has been provided) • Students show parents around Lubbock High- LHS staff will be in the hallways helping.

Please make sure your email is current when you register your student. Important announcements will be sent via the school messenger system with a phone call message. Announcements will also be read daily over the PA system at school. Announcements can also be found on the LHS Website under “Daily Announcements.” Twitter: Lubbock High also has a Twitter feed that parents and students may use to find out sport scores, announcements, and special events. @lhswesterners Facebook: The Lubbock High Facebook page contains the announcements for the school along with pictures of the different events on campus.   11. Buses There are four buses that will drop students off in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Buses only run routes in the attendance zone of Lubbock High. The bus lane is located on 18th street north of the cafeteria. Aquatics, Tennis, Lomax, Gymnastics and ATC students may also catch the bus on 18th street.

  12. Lockers Students get to pick their locker if they choose to use one. Please pick a locker on a side hallway to avoid traffic. Most students do not use lockers. Students must provide their own locks for their locker and may not share a locker with anybody. Students may reserve their locker with Ms. Hill in the main office. Please tell Ms. Hill the locker number of your choice. It is a good idea if students walk their schedule for a couple of days before choosing a locker to make sure they are getting it in the best location.

  13. Let the day begin… • Students may be dropped off on the east or west side of the building. • Please do not block through traffic. • If students arrive before 8:05 they may meet their friends in the cafeteria and grab a bite to eat or chat before school. • Students are allowed to go to tutorials before school. Make sure to get a pass from your teacher.

  14. 3:55 the day is over… • Remember 2000 students are trying to leave campus at the same time and many are new drivers- Please be patient. • The bus lane is on the northwest side of the school. Please do not park in the bus lane. • Please do not block through traffic. • Many teachers have tutorials after school and students are encouraged to attend. • Many school activities take place after school.

  15. 3:55 the day is over… • Best Places to pick-up your student • East side of the building by the cafeteria. • West side of the building between the school and the parking lots. • Behind the school- Close to the bus lane. • A block away from the school to avoid the traffic. • Ten minutes after school is over to give the traffic a chance to leave.

  16. Security- ID BADGES Every Lubbock High Students is issued an ID Badge and must wear it. Please make sure students take the picture for the badge before leaving today. Badges are used for security. Only Lubbock High students are allowed in the building. Badges can also be used to obtainbreakfast or lunch and to sign into the library.

  17. Security Every door at LHS is locked during the day. If you need to enter the building during the school day please enter through the administration office located on the northeast side of the building. Lubbock High has 93 cameras to help monitor the school. Lubbock High has a full time officer that is on duty during school hours.

  18. EXCUSED ABSENCES • Parent Call-in – 5 times per year • Call in times and log number. • Doctor’s Note – Always excused • Original and Signed • Verified by staff • Parent Request Days • Limited to 3 days (4 for Seniors) • 3 days in advance

  19. NURSE • Please turn in all immunization records to Nurse Jackson • Students must keep all medicine in the nurse’s office.

  20. Lunch Period Closed Campus for ALL Students: Closed campus means students eat lunch on campus. Parents are allowed to bring a lunch for their child and should leave the lunch in the office and the students may pick it up at lunch time. Please do not have your student meet you outside to hand them the lunch.

  21. Lunch Period Lunch is free for ALL students. Students may choose a free lunch from one of the five lines The five lunch lines are: 1. Market- Different every day- chicken fried steak, chicken nuggets, etc. 2. Deli- Sandwiches and Panini’s everyday 3. Grill- Hamburgers and Chicken Sandwiches everyday 4. Pizza- Pepperoni or Cheese Pizza everyday 5. Tortilla- Nachos or a Burrito everyday

  22. Lunch Period There are also two lines where students may purchase additional food and drinks. 1. Grab and Go Line- Students may purchase cola’s and coffee before school or during lunch. 2. Express Line- Students may purchase additional food like; pizza, fries, cookies, frozen yogurt, chips, and many other choices. Many students choose to bring their lunch and there are plenty of microwaves around the cafeteria to warm up the lunches.

  23. Lunch Period Courtyard- The courtyard will be available for students to sit outside on warm days. Booths- Many LHS organizations sell T-Shirts, Pep Rally Tickets, and many other items at lunch time. Five days a years LHS organizations will have bake sells in the foyer and will sell; cola’s, baked goods, and other food items.

  24. Cell Phones, Electronics, Accessories • Students may use their cell phones before school, lunchtime, and after school. • A phone is available in the main office for student use. • Students may listen to music in the hallway as long as they can hear people around them. • Students may check their messages between classes but will not be allowed to walk between classes talking on their cell phone.

Cell Phones, Electronics, Accessories • Teachers determine if Cell Phones will be used in their classroom for instructional purposes. • If students are not allowed to use cell phones then the students must keep the cell phones out of sight. • Teachers will give the students a warning to put the cell phone away if it is not being used. • After the first warning cell phones will be confiscated and parents will pick up the cell phone in the main office.

  26. CELL PHONE RETRIEVAL PROCESS • Parentsmay pick up a phone free of charge any time during office hours (7:45 am – 5:00 pm.) • Students may pick up a cell phone free of charge, if they handed the phone over willingly, the first offense. Students must pay a $15.00 fee, afterschool, after the first offense. After third confiscation, only parent can pick up the phone or device and ISS placement will be issued.

  27. MESSAGE DELIVERY TO STUDENTS • Only in case of emergency • Determined by Administrative Staff • Not an emergency- Messages will not be sent • Arranging a ride/pick-up time • Arranging lunch • Forgotten books/assignments • Parents may text their student

  28. Dress code Expectations 1. Facial studs are allowed but other body piercings are not allowed. No gauges. 2. Tattoos must be covered. 3. Hair can not be extreme in color or style. 4. House shoes, pajamas, hats, beanies, and pants that sag are not allowed. 5. Nothing lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene. 6. Pants with holes are not acceptable if the hole is above the finger tip. 7. Administration has final say on the Dress Code.

  29. Dress code Expectations: Ladies • Spaghetti straps, muscle shirts, and low cut revealing blouses are not allowed. • See through clothing may not be worn. • Skirts, shorts, and dresses must be below fingertip length. • Undergarments should not be seen and no bare midriff.

  30. Dress code Expectations: Gentlemen 1. Tank tops or muscle shirts shall not be worn. 2. Students may have beards and mustaches but they must be clean and well groomed. 3. Mohawks, faux hawks, and extreme hair cuts are not permitted.

  31. Bike Racks • Students may ride their bikes to school. • Bike racks are located between the main building and the spectator gym. • A more secure bike rack is located in the courtyard. • Students should always lock their bike to the rack.

  32. How to get around LHS Lubbock High is a three story building that is over a quarter mile long. The numbering system for classrooms: 1000 Hallway is main hallway on first floor. 2000 Hallway is main hallway on second floor. 3000 Hallway is main hallway on third floor.

  33. How to get around LHS The side hallways are 100 numbers, therefore a side hallway on the first floor would be 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, or 1500. The 2500 hallway is on the second floor on the West Side of the building. To get to the gyms or the band hall go out the north doors and go outside and you will see them.
