  2. Heading Type ___ Name FCA’s (1-3) Date X When we write in class, it is important X to skip lines. Then when we revise and edit, X there is a place to add new information. X Putting an X on every other line will help X us to remember to skip lines.

  3. Focus Correction AreasFCA’s • For each writing assignment, there will be 1-3 areas for which the writing will be graded. • Examples: • Spelling • Punctuation • Run-ons • Describing Words

  4. Type 1 – Capture Ideas In Type 1 writing we will: • Capture ideas by brainstorming ideas about a topic with free flowing thoughts and ideas. • There is no correct answer. • One draft.

  5. Type 1 Example • We will write for 5 minutes. • Write at least 5 lines about today’s weather. • Type 1 Sally Sue • Priority Words September 5, 2002 • Today the wether is sunny. The sun is shining and there are not many clowds. I really like when the wether is nice. It’s more fun to play outside when it is bright and sunny.

  6. Type 2 - Respond • In Type 2 writings it is important to respond correctly to the question or prompt.  • We will create writing which makes a point, and has the correct answer or content.  • One draft.

  7. Type 2 Example Type 2 Sally Sue • Priority Words October 5, 2002 • 3 Facts The solar system is very big. There are planets in the solar system. Some planits have people and other planets do not. The Earth, Sun and Moon are prt of the solar system. • We will write for 7 minutes. • Write 3 facts about the solar system.

  8. Type 3 - Edit • Edit for FCA's.  • You will read your own writing out loud and review it yourself by asking these three questions:  • Does my writing complete the assignment?  • Is my writing easy to read?  • Does my writing meet the Focus Correction Areas?

  9. Type 3 Example Type 3 Sally Sue • Priority Words November 5, 2002 • Problem • Character One summar day a girl named Katie went to the market. She neaded to buy milk for her family. She ran all the way to the store. When she got there, the money was missing from her pocket. “What do I do now?” she asked the storekeeper. He let her take the milk home and she promissed to bring the money back later that day. Her family was very happy. We will write for 10 minutes. Write a short fiction story.

  10. Type 4 - Peer Edit • Just like Type 3, with another step! • Peer edit for FCA's.  • You will meet with a partner and peer conference about each other’s writing. • Share ideas and help each other improve what has been written. • Two heads are better than one! • Two drafts.

  11. Type 4 Example Type 4 Sally Sue • Priority Words November 15, 2002 • Good Beginning • Problem / Solution One summar day a girl named Katie went to the market. She neaded to buy milk for her family. She ran all the way to the store. When she got there, the money was missing from her pocket. “What do I do now?” she asked the storekeeper. He let her take the milk home and she promissed to bring the money back later that day. Her family was very happy. Write a fiction story with a good beginning, characters and a problem with a solution.

  12. Type 5 - Publish • Just like Type 4, but better! • After meeting with a partner and revising, editing and proofreading, you will publish your writing. • Ways to Publish: • Rewrite in your best writing. • Type your writing. • Publishing Center • Shape Book

  13. Writing is Fun!! • Things to write about: • Family • Friends • Pets • Kings/ Queens • Mysteries
