  1. Remembering Your Creator Before the Golden BowlBroken As you get older, your body doesn’t serve you as well as it used to. Muscles loosen, adhesion weakens, joints stiffen. The shadows have fallen upon the world. You can’t just walk back and forth. Things are coming to a halt. The ringing of the house fades away. You are awakened by the singing of birds. Mountain walks are history. Even a walk down the street gets its terrors. Your hair becomes white as apple blossom, adorning a fragile and powerless body of matches. Yes, you are on the path of eternal rest, while your friends make plans for your burial. Life, beautiful as long as it lasts, is soon completed. Life as we know it, precious and beautiful, comes to a close. The body is returned to the same ground from which it came. The spirit goes back to God, who first inhaled it.

  2. There’s just smoke in here. The Quester says this is all smoke. In addition to being wise himself, the Quester also taught other people knowledge. He weighed, examined and arranged a number of proverbs. The quester went out of his way to find the right words and write the truth. The words of the wise propel us to live well. They’re like nails nailed into the house, holding life together. They are given through God, the only shepherd. But over and above that, my friend, take it easy. There is no end to the publishing of books, and constant study wears you out so you are not good for anything else. The last word is that you fear God. Do as he says. -Rumah Byrapaka (Based on Ecclesiastes 12:3-13)
