CONCEPT • The Rythu Bazars were established in the year 1999. The concept of Rythu Bazar was developed to facilitate direct marketing between consumers and farmers. • Rythu Bazars are planned for direct interface between the farmers and the consumers eliminating middlemen. Rythu Bazars will operate outside the purview of Markets Act 1966. • Rythu Bazars are located on Government land convenient to both the farmers and consumers. Across the state 107 Rythu Bazars are functioning in Andhra Pradesh. • Besides above 14 mobile RythuBazars and two outlets in twin cities are working. RythuBazars are exempted from payment of market fees, service charges on the farmers and users respectively. 7 more Rythubazars are also working • Prices of the vegetable are fixed through a committee of farmers and the departmental officer. The prices of vegetable of RythuBazars are generally 25% above the wholesale prices and 25% less than the local retail price, thus reducing the gap between farm gate prices and retail price. 1

RYTHU BAZARS (ADMINISTRATION) • Each Rythu Bazar has an Estate officer with supporting staff. • At the district level, Joint Collector is responsible for establishment and management of Rythu Bazars affairs. Day to day administration is being looked after by the ADMs concerned. • At the State level Chief Executive Officer, Rythu Bazars is the coordinating officer. 4
NO MARKET FEE • No market fees is collected from the Farmers of RythuBazars. • All facilities are provided to Farmers with free of cost • Rents are being collected from Self-Help Groups & Govt. Agencies only 5
FACILITIES PROVIDED TO THE FARMERS All the farmers have been provided with identity cards Weighing Scales have been provided to all the farmers on Daily basis at free of cost • Canteen, Drinking Water, Toilet and Storage facilities have been provided. 6
FARMERS REACTION / CONSUMERS SATISFACTION • Large number of consumers visit the Rythu Bazars for purchase of vegetables. Farmers are getting better prices than the Local Market as the prices of vegetables are fixed by the Estate Officer every day, duly eliminating middle men. • Similarly consumers are getting fresh vegetables at reasonable prices and also they get all varieties of vegetables including essential commodities at one place in Rythu Bazar. 8
RYTHU BAZARS (FARMERS MARKET) A total quantity of 20 lakh metric tones of Vegetables are traded through Rythu Bazars during the year. The Marketing Department is undertaking Market Intervention to make the vegetables available at reasonable prices when the prices of Tomato, onions and other vegetables increase/decrease abnormally. The vegetables are made available in Rythu Bazars through Self Help Groups. The vegetable prices are fixed by the Estate Officer with the consent of vegetable growers/farmers committee every day. The prices of provisions are determined by District Supply Officer concerned once in a week. OBJECTIVE: The main objective of Rythu Bazar is to ensure remunerative price to farmers and availability of fresh Vegetables at reasonable price to consumers. 10
RYTHU BAZARS (FUNCTIONING) • Daily on an average 35,000 to 40,000 quintals of vegetables are sold in Rythu Bazars. • On an average 5,000 to 6,000 farmers participate in Rythu Bazars. Each Joint Collector is provided with a sum of Rs.5.00 lakhs as revolving fund under market intervention scheme to control the prices. 13
