Context: • Support Early Career Teachers and those New to the Lands – considerations of attraction • and retention • Incorporate a mentoring aspect by selecting 8 AST2 mentors (raising the profile of ASTs) • Resourced from Local Innovations Funding • Implemented by Aboriginal Lands Region through Anangu Education Services (AES) • Supported by DECS HR/WD Teacher Quality Unit • Informed by insights from Barb Munt (Reidy Park PS)
Action: • Determine Needs - Lands ECTs and NTs to the Lands surveyed post Induction • Conference • AST2s identified via expression of interest process • AST2 Mentors and Lands Mentees matched • Induction of AST2s • Face to face at Yulara May 28 – 30, 2011 • (This was a critical link, given isolation of Lands Teachers allowing them to build • relationships strengthening of resilience and capacity.)
Outcomes: • Learning… *for individuals re skills, capacity • *culture • *pathways and opportunities • *understandings of the “bigger picture” • *understandings of importance of ongoing development/NPST • *developing as quality teachers and being valued • (Learning facilitated by Conference and ongoing Mentor/Mentee relationships) • Mentors reunited and engaged in professional conversations that were catalysts • for further development • Mentees facilitated to engage with Mentors in their sites • Video Conference planned to maintain ties
