  2. Basic Information • Real name was Losif Dzhugashvili. • Born in Gori, Georgia on December 21, 1879 (Shubnaya).

  3. Early Life • Stalin was often beaten by his mother and drunken father. • Stalin almost killed his father by throwing a knife at him. • At age seven, he got smallpox and had scars on his face for the rest of his life. • After smallpox, he was bullied and called “pocky” because of the scars (Shubnaya).

  4. Rise To Power • 1922- Due to a lack of popularity compared to Trotsky, Stalin was appointed General Secretary of the Communist Party. • 1924- Stalin wins battle with Lenin as he dies • 1927- Trotsky is expelled from the party and sent to exile. • 1927- Stalin becomes head of the communist party and the Soviet Union (McKinney).

  5. While in Power • 1906-1907- Stalin set up a fund raiser for the Bolshevik party. • The fund raiser was a robbery and Stalin was caught and sent to exile for two years (Shubnaya).

  6. Stalin’s Death • Fell into a coma on in 1953 and died four days later
