BackgroundSri Lanka • Sri Lanka: • island in the Indian Ocean • 65,601 square miles in extent • 20 million people • peoples’ republic comprising a Parliament, President and Independent Judiciary System. • President and Parliament Members are elected every six years. • over 95% literacy rate • two official languages with English serving as link Language • claims for over 2,500 years of written history • Very Rich in cultural and scenic features

CAA Sri Lanka - Background • Established in terms of the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka Act No.34 of 2002. • is the sole regulatory body charged with safety oversight functions in civil aviation. • reports to the Minister of Civil Aviation • is managed by a Board of eight (8) Members. • has powers to make independent financial and administrative decisions, within the overall policy of the government. • Faced ICAO Assessment/Audit in 1997,2000, 2004 (follow up Audit) and USOAP audit in 2010
