Mathematics • Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Initiative • CDE has posted a Common Core State Standards Web page at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/cc/ • Work on any content area framework is suspended until the 2013-14 school year • Mathematics Assessments – Comprehensive Systems funded by Race to the Top • Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) • Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) 7
Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) • PARCC received $170 million to develop common assessment systems for English and Math • Based on college- and career-ready, internationally-benchmarked CCSS • 26 states are involved with this consortium; including California • The memorandum of understanding between PARCC and the participating states stipulate that when there is a change in elected governor and superintendent that a letter of continued participation must be made within five months of the new officers taking office. Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) • SBAC received $176 million Race to the Top assessment grant • More than 30 participating states • SBAC will create state-of-the-art adaptive online exams, using “open source” technology • SBAC web page is located at:http://www.k12.wa.us/SMARTER/default.aspx 9
California Mathematics and Science Partnership (CaMSP) • CaMSP funding to date (Cohorts 1-8) • Cohort funding to date $146,259,693 • Funded partnerships • Science: 55 • Math: 146 • Funding for FY 2011 is in place • Cohort 9 Request for Application (RFA) • Based on Federal information, CDE plans on issuing a Cohort 9 RFA. • Release date June/July 2011 • Due date September 15, 2011 10
