CeBIT 2009 Report Andy Pink Marketing Communications & Microsoft Alliance
CeBIT 2009 „Recession … Depression ... ?” not in the "little city" called Hannover in Germany which – between the 2nd and 8th of March - again was host of the largest IT & computer fair in the world. CeBIT 2009 got off to a powerful start and ended on a successful note, boosting optimism in the world ICT industry. A majority of the 4,300 companies from 69 countries drew fresh optimism from being here at CeBIT.A huge number of exhibitors and visitors are now leaving Hannover with a renewed sense of buoyancy as well as a solid foundation for new business. The show had lived up to their expectations – yet again – despite the given economic climate. More than 400,000 visitors - a drop of just under 20 percent on the previous year's figure - came to CeBIT 2009 to generate new business. A marked increase in the trade visitor ratio however meant their expectations were often exceeded. Companies who came well-prepared reported a jump in significant business leads of more than 20 percent ted. This CeBIT has been a good investment for exhibitors and visitors alike, delivering real benefits to everyone. The percentage of visitors from abroad remained steady at 20 percent. A decrease in attendance from Asia was offset by increased attendance from the Americas and the Middle East. The opening address by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, representing this year's partner state, set the right tone to kick off the event. Schwarzenegger's optimistic and determined attitude strengthened the ICT industry's resolve to capitalize on all the available opportunities. This spirit of new momentum was felt tangibly by everybody at the show. The CeBIT spotlight this year was on higher efficiency and lower costs in all areas of business IT – a perfect platform for CITRIX !
Citrix Booth„20 years of virtualization – more efficiency with reduced costs“ Being positioned in the neighborhood of Microsoft and SAP our favorable booth position and concept layed the foundation of a promising – and very successful „customer/lead pathway“ ... With 12 highly motivated and satisfied partners (resellers), 3 Citrix Authorized Learning Centers as well as an awesome and tireless bunch of Citrix staff – especially our System Engineers (!) we generated a stunning result and wrapped up with approx. 3.300 leads and another 1.300 (profiled!) online contacts !! far exceeding our self-set goal and expectations!
„Key-Plays“ ... Everywhere! Our Key Message „ More efficiency (and) with reduced costs 20 years of virtualization with Citrix“ was supported by most of our current key-plays (see booth layouts) and buzzwords like: • Simple • Secure • Flexible • Reliable • Proven/Tested • Cost effective We showcased our entire product line – „remotely“ of course accessing our central demo-farm in Hallbergmoos. „eat your own dogfood and lead by example“ – so nothing local – all remote ! Very impressive to all visitors!
„Presentation-Marathon-Junkie“ Our indestructable “Marathon-Presenter", Fabian Kienle, gave 63 Presentations (each roughly 10-Minutes) in 5.5 days ! Humorously and energetically covering everything our Delivery Center has to offer: • XenServer/Citrix Essentials • XenDesktop • XenApp • Netscaler/Citrix Repeater • Etc..
Citrix Truck NEW concept – GREAT Success ! In addition to our main booth we put our „Citrix Truck“ to the - very well received - „off-road-test“ at CeBIT 6 Days 9 x 45 min. technical sessionwith (max.) 16 customers per session. Cudos and respect to the 2 System Engineers Jürgen Wand and Markus Remmlinger who managed to survive and gather around 560 LEADS !
Citrix Truck – a few (of the many) Highlights • National Bank of Egypt. • The visit of the head of IT-Service of NBoE resulted in the wish for Citrix Dubai to „pay him a visit asap“. They currently seek to purchase „10.000s“ of clients !!. They see the neccessity to centralize and their statement was: „there is no valid alternative to Citrix“ !! So they want to be contacted about a Proof of Concept – ASAP! (lead will be forwarded to appropriate team) • Government Sector • Many visitors from within the Government sector. In line with the current „economic stimulus package“ there are investment plans ! • Examples are: Police Hannover, University of Hannover, etc. • Country administration of East-Germany: currently 1.500 users via Terminal Services – after Truck demo they want to implement XenApp • Microsoft STU • We invited representatives from the EPG Specialist Team Unit (Technology Consultants) to compare the Citrix 360° to Microsofts. The unsual „that‘s exactly what we offer“ resulted in a „whow .. you guys DO have a lot on top value to offer ...“ • All customers throughout were impressed and excited about our XenServer products and strategy. Many of those will definitely deploy XenServer in the future ! • And even 3 times we received the statement: „ who needs VMware now ...“
Microsoft We had very successful and fruitful meetings with MS Germany: • Head of SMS&P and member of the exec board (Robert Helgert) • Head of BG Information Worker (Christian Mertens) • Head of Server & Tools (Claus v.Rottkay) • Product Manager for SMS & EBS • Product Manager for Windows Server 2008 • Responsible for Virtualization from within the Server BG • Product Manager for SQL Server • Product Manager for Sharepoint and Office (Deployment !) • Representatives from EGP STU (Specialst Team Unit) • Etc.., Etc.. CeBIT and our demo-scenarios provided a perfect plaform to showcase and demonstrate WHAT we (can) DO and how we add-value to the Microsoft product portfolio. Despite our great partnership and connections with some of the above ... the resulting „whows‘“, „now I understand“, and I didn‘t expect this“ were very satisfying and layed the pathways to an ever wider range of collaboration and joint opportunities. I will submit a more detailed report of the outcomes and defined/resulting next steps in a separate mail.
