  2. Before authors put pen to paper…. They need to think about what they are writing and WHY Turn and Talk to your partner – Why should an author decide why he/she is writing their piece before he/she begins to write it? (Hint: how does it help the reader?) It can give readers… insight into how the story may move forward or what may happen insight into the author’s mind and possible reasons they might have for writing

As I read aloud work with your partner to think through other possible purposes Mary Bahr might have for writing this story. Listen, jot down notes, and discuss with your partner

  5. Evaluation & Homework EVALUATION: Rate yourself a 1-4 for how well this lesson (notes, activity, information learned) made sense to you HOMEWORK: Complete another 3 rows of the authors purpose using different texts (mentor texts read in class and/or those that have been photocopied)
