What is Medicare? • Medicare is the federal health insurance program for: • People who are 65 or older • Certain younger people with disabilities • People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, sometimes called ESRD) • Medicare is partly funded by payroll taxes from most employers, employees and all people who are self-employed. Medicare Part B • Parts B is also known as Original Medicare. Part B covers certain doctors' services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. • This is care that happens outside of a hospital.
