  2. #1 At the age of 14 Offenbach’s father took his son from Cologne, Germany to Paris, changed his name from Jacob to Jacques and got him admitted to The Conservatoire de Paris to study cello. #2 Offenbach's operettas were extremely popular in France and the English-speaking world in the 1850s and 60s. They combined political and cultural satire with witty grand opera parodies.
