DORIS_Net-Project • DORIS: Downstream Observatory organised by Regions active In Space • Bremen (CEON) mobilised project proposal for FP7-Space/GMES-call in 2009 • Support Action - ”Fostering downstream activities and links with regions” • Project proposal was selected by European Commission and will start beginning 2011 • 11 NEREUS-partners involved in project activities • NEREUS officially supports project

GMES and the essential role of the Regions (1) • GMES Regulation 2011-2013 and financial perspective after 2014: prioritygiven to « core services » but downstream services and the relatedrole of the Regions are not sufficientlydevelopped. • Developping GMES must imply services providers AND final userstogether. • Need to increasebeneficiaries and practionners awareness of the importance of space technologies - By profession - By geographical area
GMES and the essential role of the Regions (2) • NEREUS should t ake the initiative of gatheringEuropean Institutions and final users (e.g. farmers, transport managers, security and firefighting personnel, town and country planning managers…) • EuropeanRegionsshoudbe part of the consulting processregarding the usefulness and the implementation of EU budgets and programmes • EuropeanRegionscangetthis consultative mission through NEREUS
GMES and the essential role of the Regions (3) • For instance, space, as a cross-cuttingthematic, shouldbe part of different call of FP7 (and FP8), not only in SPACE and TRANSPORT (GALILEO) call. e.g. Health&telemedicine, ICT&geolocalisation; Environement&renewableenergiesprospecting; Security&riskprevention; Transport&Intelligent transport systems… • Communication and disseminationtowardseuropeancitizens and local stakeholdersis crucial => Brochure on the 25 uses of GMES in the Regions as an edifyingexample
