  1. Innovative energy policies of the US Christoph Knapp & Philipp Ozek

  2. Energy in the US • essential factor for development • guarantor of living standard • a crucial matter of evidence

  3. Imports • Gas and oil became more and more important for America and since the early 1970s when Americas gas and oil reserves started to decline, America became dependent of imports from other countries´ oil and gas!

  4. US OilProductionand Imports

  5. Mobility • America needs about 27% of all their energy to be mobile. • Gasoline, diesel and the biofuels made up 81% of all the energy used for transportation

  6. Fuel usedfortransportation

  7. Homes • In 1978, there were 76.6 million occupied housing units in the United States, which used a total of 6.96 quads for space heating. Although the number of homes increased 45 percent to 111.1 million by 2005, they used significantly less energy for heating — just 4.30 quads. The decline is largely due to the improved energy efficiency of heating equipment along with better window design and insulation to more effectively seal homes, although some decline is associated with population movements toward warmer areas.

  8. Total Energyuse in homes

  9. OilProductionand Imports • Production and the imports of the OPEC is the same high 34% • Canada 12% • Mexico 9%

  10. EnergyConsumption • In the last 60 years the primary energy consumption tripled • about eight percent is generated from renewable resources • half of the renewable energy is used to generate electricity

  11. EnergyConsumption

  12. Electricityused in homes • appliances and lightning • heating and cooling • insulationis not asgoodas in otherhighdevelopedstates
