  1. F-MAN Project – Final ReviewGenoa, December 2nd – 3rd, 2004 EDC HUB statistics Data relevance, SMS latencies, Power Consumption, Costs

  2. Architecture overview Archiving, logging, PARSING (Bin. <-> XML) XML SMS PDU (binary messages) 100111010111010101001010… SMTP (E-mail)

  3. Data relevance • 11498 messages handled (20040526102002 – 20041126090529 ) • Extracted data: • Host time (UTC)  reception of the SMS by the HUB. • OBT ID • OBT generation time (TX time - UTC)  time the OBT did send the SMS. • “User” (PI, SNCF, CP) • Message type (0x80, 0x82, 0x84, 0x90 …) • Power consumption • Position time • Event time (cfr. Excel file “all.xls”)

  4. Message latencies (1) • Host time (reception) – OBT generations time (send) • Restrictions: • Only (“single” record 0x84 messages); • Valid Position & Event times; • For PI OBT’s only (differences between CP, PI and SNCF OBT’s prove to be not significant); • 2850 records are useable data AVERAGE LATENCY: 2496 seconds (42 minutes) MEDIAN LATENCY: 63 seconds (cfr. All_d.xls)

  5. Message latencies (2)

  6. Energy consumption (1) • Calculation base: • Host time, OBT ID, energy consumption; • Battery capacity: PwrCpt maximum value = 4651; • Result per OBT; • PI & SNCF OBT’s; • Different setup (messages per day) for PI and SNCF; • Worst Case scenario calculations

  7. Energy consumption (2)SNCF • Based on data in “sncf_power.xls” • Maximum energy consumption per month = 85 units (approximately 1.83 %); • Average power units used = 500; • Energy units remaining: 4651 – 500 = 4151 • Months before alarm: 4151/85 = 48 months  (november 2008)

  8. SNCF energy consumption percentage graph

  9. Energy Consumption (3)PI • Based on data in “pi_power.xls” • Maximum energy consumption per month = 208 units (4.5 %); • Average power units used = 1000; • Power units remaining: 4651 – 1000 = 3651 • Months before alarm: 3651/208 = 17 months  (March/April 2006)

  10. PI energy consumption percentage graph

  11. SMS cost estimate • Calculation base (cfr. FMAN_SIM_sept.xls) • Mobistar billing details from May -> September 2004; • Total number of SMS messages PI: 4031; • Total number of SMS messages SNCF: 3589; • No billing data for CP available; CP does not use “EDC” SIM cards. SMS cost PI: € 0.36 SMS cost SNCF: € 0.35 Fixed fee for CP SIM cards: € 0.02  0.05

  12. Questions & Answers EDC whishes to thank Every member of the F-MAN team For the very constructive collaboration. EDC Heidestraat 257 B-2070 Zwijndrecht Belgium www.edchq.com, www.viasat.be
