  4. Materials and Supplies • Textbook: “Prentice Hall Algebra 2 Honors Gold Series Florida” • Composition Notebook for class notes and class examples (ONLY FOR ALGEBRA 2!!!) • Duo-Tang Folder (3 pins and pockets) for the Syllabus, Tricks and Tips Handouts, Vocabulary Lists, etc. (See sample!) • Lined paper, quadrille (graph) paper for classwork and activities to turn in to the teacher • 2 sharpened pencils, colored pencils, erasers, glue stick, yellow highlighter, blue pen, small sharpener, 12-inch ruler, scissors

Class Notes, Classwork, and Homework Class Notes (WORTH 2 GRADES EACH QUARTER) All notes to be copied on the composition notebook as required by the teacher Proper Heading: Date (top right-hand corner of page, Title (center of page). (See poster!) Do not forget to put your name, period, course name, and teacher name on the front cover!!! Classwork All classwork to be turned in to the teacher upon request. (A reasonable amount of time will be allotted for each classwork. NO CLASSWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE ALLOTTED TIME! Under special circumstances, if a student needs extra time, a parent-teacher conference will be required.) Proper Heading : Name, Period, Date (top right-hand corner), Title (center of page) (See poster!) Homework All homework to be turned in on the due date. Homework may be turned in upon return to school if a student has an excused absence. Proper Heading : Name, Period, Date (top right-hand corner), Title (center of page) (See poster!) Class Notes, Classwork, and Homework Done in pencil (NO EXCEPTIONS!) (Note: Student will be allowed to complete work in ink, but work will not be graded until redone in pencil.) All mathematics steps are to be shown… NO WORK => NO CREDIT!!! All work needs to be neat and legible! (Note: Absolutely NO DOODLES, OR WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!) Collected and graded at random If plagiarism is detected, both students will receive an “F”

Cooperative Learning/Behavior with Daily Lessons • All student seats will be assigned! • At times, desks will be arranged into groups (not for quizzes and tests) and students will be assigned a group to work with. All students will be participating in group activities. Your group will be reassigned at some point in time. • The daily itinerary will be as follows: • Bell Ringer as you enter the class • HW ready for teacher to collect • HW review • Teacher/Student presents a lesson, sets up an activity, or assigns an assessment • Students complete work and turn in to teacher • New HW is assigned at the end of class. HW will be posted in School Notes or the Class Collaboration Site.

  7. Cooperative Learning/Behavior with Daily Lessons (Continued) • Before dismissal, students turn in materials and check classroom for neatness. (Pick up papers from the floors, rearrange seats, etc.) • Students are to remain seated until the bell rings • Bathroom passes will not be issued during instruction, nor at the beginning or end of class. If bathroom privilege is abused, a call home will be required. • No food, no drinks, no chewing gum (water bottles are OK!) • No cell phones in use or on display (phone will be confiscated and handed in to administration) • No damage to school property (referral to the administration) • Respect yourself, your teacher, your classmates, and the learning environment. (Believe you CAN achieve and set GOALS for yourself. Treat others the way you like to be treated!) • Listen carefully to the teacher and others while you are in a group activity. Contribute to the group! Ask questions to your classmates and to your teacher. Help others when asked!

  8. Rewards and Consequences • Rewards • Achievement Awards every quarter (“Highest Achievement”, “Model Student”, “Exemplary Classroom Behavior”, “Most Improved”) • Positive email or phone call to parent/guardian • Skip assignment • Time in class to do homework • Extra Credit • Occasional treats! • Consequences • In escalating mode: verbal warning  discipline note  CSI/Referral to administration with phone call to parent/guardian  CSI/Referral with parent-teacher conference required before return to classroom. (Note: Depending on the severity of the behavior, the teacher may choose to escalate consequence.)

Grade Distribution • Tests/Quizzes (50% Regular / 60% Honors) • Quizzes will be announced and unannounced (WORTH 1 GRADE) • Tests will be announced and given at the end of each chapter (WORTH 2 GRADES) • Note: Grading for the Interim Assessment Tests will be announced later in the year! • Classwork (25% Regular / 20% Honors) • Assigned daily with some exceptions • Individual grades for group product • Composition notebook worth 3 grades • Homework (15% Regular / 10% Honors) • Assigned daily with some exceptions • Collected and graded at random • Projects/Alternative Assessments (10%) • Co-Leader, Critical Thinking Questions and Answers, etc.

Attendance/Make-Up Policy ABSENCES If absent for one class  missed assignments due next class If absent for more than one class  same number of classes to turn in missed assignments All work needs to have an excused absence attached Missed assignments may be obtained online. No excuse for not knowing what was assigned in class! Missed tests and/or quizzes may be taken during class with advance notification to teacher No work will be accepted after the deadlines stated. Failure to complete make up work on time will result in a zero (Z) for that assignment. REMEMBER: IT IS NOT THE TEACHER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO REMIND YOU!!! TARDIES Students need to be in the classroom before the bell rings. Students may not arrive late to class from a bathroom visit. They need to get to class on time and ask for a pass when appropriate. EARLY RELEASE Early release passes should be kept to a minimum. Students will need to present a parent letter to receive make up work.
