Using Data to Make Recommendations Newman Building Use Survey 2007 Benches Location: 3 first floor lobby, 9 second floor in groupings of 3 Use: 88% of bench use was on the first floor but only 25% of the benches are on the first floor. They are used as temporary seating. Observation: Place benches in areas of temporary seating. These should be high traffic areas. Noisy areas. Placing them in study areas is wasting space that could be put to better use.
Using Data to Make Recommendations Newman Building Use Survey 2007 Groups Group Work: defined as two or more people observed to be collaborating Group Study Room Location: 4 fourth floor, 3 second floor Use: Four of the hours surveyed showed occupancy rates of over 70%, with the highest was 95% (9:00 pm).

Furniture Preferences: Tables and carrels. Observations: When purchasing new furniture we should explore carrels designed for three or four people.
Using Data to Make Recommendations Newman Building Use Survey 2007 Computer Use Use: 42% of patrons were using laptop computers, 15% were using library computers. 69% of laptop users had them plugged in. Observation: The majority of laptop users want to plug them in. Place furniture to make maximum use of the outlets. When selecting new furniture investigate purchasing furniture with power ports.
