Application Integration Hardware Support Meter Runs Historical Database Events & Alarms MODBUS PID FST IEC-61131 ROC800 Protocol User C Environment IO Module Interface IO Execution Communications Pre-emptive, multi-tasking, message-based architecture Real-Time Operating System Performance Problems Solved • The ROC800-Series uses a real-time, multi-tasking operating system designed specifically for the kind of measurement and control tasks encountered in field applications. • This operating system has proven its robustness in industrial control, telecommunications and avionics applications.
Performance Problems Solved • The high power consumption of PLCs often limits their use to factory applications. Low power consumption for remote operation was a key design goal of the ROC800-Series. • In addition to using low-power components, extensive use is made of the "sleep" modes provided by the CPU. • Sleep modes shut down operations when they are not needed, such as certain software tasks, and they control power to devices such as LEDs.
I/O Problems Solved • Interfacing to end devices can be the weakest link in a measurement and control system. Problems related to grounding, wiring errors, electrical noise, and transients are commonplace. • The ROC800-Series solves many of these problems because we’ve designed its I/O and communications modules with accuracy, ruggedness and survivability in mind.
I/O Problems Solved • Plug-in I/O modules make extensive use of optical (electrical) isolation, transient suppression, and current limiting to improve reliability and virtually eliminate failures related to power, grounding and wiring errors. • I/O modules are isolated from the backplane to minimize cross-card failures. The benefits of this protection are less downtime, fewer trips to the field for repairs, and reduced spares inventory.
I/O Problems Solved • The HART interface module supports HART-compatible smart instrumentation, increasing the number of instruments that can be connected to the ROC800-Series. • In addition, It supports the transfer of diagnostic information from smart devices to the ROC800-Series.
I/O Problems Solved • I/O modules can be plugged into the module slots in any order and combination of module types. • An extensive range of I/O types are supported by the ROC800-Series giving it great flexibility in handling a broad range of applications. HART Interface Analog In Discrete In Analog Out Pulse In Discrete Out Relay Out RTD/TC In
Communication Problems Solved • Modern automation systems place increasingly greater demands on the communications capabilities of field equipment. • We designed the ROC800-Series to blend into almost any system environment by virtue of its wide range of communications and networking options.
Communication Problems Solved • With the Ethernet capability of the ROC800-Series, you can effectively extend your company’s local area network (LAN) to the field. You get more data at a lower cost than with conventional communications methods. • When coupled with our DS800 Development Suite, Ethernet makes it possible to network ROC800s, giving you tremendous I/O and control capabilities for large applications.
Communication Problems Solved • In addition to an Ethernet port, the ROC800-Series has two built-in EIA-232 (RS-232) ports, one typically used for communications to a PC-based local operator interface, and one for communication to other devices. • Three additional ports can be added using plug-in Communication Modules.
Communication Problems Solved • An outstanding feature of the ROC800-Series is its Spontaneous Report-by-Exception (SRBX) Data Transmission capability. • A host computer can poll the ROC800-Series at a user-specified time interval, or the unit can initiate a transmission when certain alarm conditions occur. • SRBX can greatly reduce communication system loading and related costs.
Application Problems Solved • The problem with many RTUs, PLCs and flow computers is their inability to meet a wide range of applications common to field installations. • The ROC800-Series addresses this problem with a comprehensive applications package that supports a wide range of metering and control needs. • The package builds upon the outstanding features proven in tens of thousands of ROC300 series installations worldwide. AGA calculations PID loop control Logic Control Sequencing Control
Application Problems Solved • The power of the ROC800-Series is demonstrated by the number of processes that it can handle simultaneously with a small amount of I/O. • For example, 12 Meter Runs and 16 Control Loops can be managed by the ROC800-Series using only two multi-variable sensor ports and 16 analog outputs.
Application Problems Solved • The ROC800-Series gas calculations meet these standards: • API Chapter 21 Section 1 • AGA 3 - orifice metering • AGA 7 (ISO 9951) - turbine metering • AGA 8 (ISO 12213-2,3) - compressibility • ISO 5167 - orifice metering (liquids) • API 12 - turbine metering (liquids). • Setting up meter runs is fast and easy with fill-in-the-blanks configuration that requires only minimal knowledge of flow calculations.
Application Problems Solved • A new feature introduced by the ROC800-Series is the Meter Station, which makes it easy to configure and operate multiple meter runs with similar properties. • Meter Stations also reduce communications overhead and reduce data entry when configuring multiple meter runs. • The ROC800-Series can handle up to 12 meter runs, and runs can be grouped in up to 12 Meter Stations.
Application Problems Solved • The ROC800-Series provides outstanding PID loop control capability that rivals that found in dedicated process controllers. The control firmware incorporates: • Pre-configured templates for basic PID loop control • Up to 16 PID control loops each with override support • Support for both analog and discrete control devices. • In addition, special loop control strategies can be implemented using the extensive programming capabilities of the ROC800-Series.
Application Problems Solved • The ROC800-Series provides you with Function Sequence Table (FST) control. • You construct control strategies by choosing from logic, math, comparison, time-related, control-related, database and general command sets. • Current ROC300 users can run their FSTs on the ROC800-Series with only minor modifications.
Programming Problems Solved • To fully exploit the capabilities of the ROC800-Series, you don’t need to be a programming expert. • We’ve assembled programming tools that make almost anyone look like an expert. And all tools are Microsoft® Windows®-based for ease of use.
