GENERAL INFORMATION • We will begin with pre-history and the dawn of humans to the 1500’s. • New book; Holt World History; Human Legacy • This is an in-depth class and students need to be willing to do more work and more reading to achieve success. • Homework needs to be completed so work in the class can add to knowledge.
Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize: • Geography Skills; locations, reading maps, extracting information from maps, such as topographic, absolute location. • Primary Sources; biographical information, diaries, first-hand accounts. • Writing is a key component in class. It is a skill student’s will use for the rest of their lives!
Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize: • Interpreting Political Cartoons; this is a key skill that is frequently on the SAT and AP exams. • Oral Presentations; both solo presentations and the use of Socratic Seminars. • Critical Thinking skills; using student’s knowledge and applying it in various points in history.
Top Ten Things We Will Emphasize: • Research Skills by use of term papers, and executive summaries. • Cooperative Learning by using small groups and in-class groups. • Use of period literature to allow students to connect to the past. • Applying problem solving with the use of simulations and generating their own solutions to historical problems.
