1.1 Define terms related to technology and professional portfolios. 1. audiovisual – strategies that incorporate the use of sight and sound to relay a message 2. cover letter – letter sent with a resume to a potential employer 3. digital camera – device used to capture images into digitized electronic data, which can be stored and retrieved immediately. 4. graphics –a picture, border, map or graph used for illustration or demonstration 5. handheld data manager – a small electronic device that can have a variety of features including databases, word processors, email, calendar, synchronizing capabilities, and other applications 6. laptop computer/notebook – a compact, portable computer system
7. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) projection – equipment that works with a computer and screen or presentation board to project the computer images 8. mass storage device -removable data drive or disc 9. portfolio – collection of samples of work that highlight your interest, talents, contributions, and studies; important item to bring to job interviews 10. presentation board – an interactive board that acts as a touch screen for a computer and has various features to aid in delivering presentations 11. presentation software – a type of software that enhances a presentation, such as slide shows, graphics, text editing, etc. 12. resume – a summary of your qualifications for a job
1.2 Explain the advantages of using current technology in relation to leadership and service learning. • increases motivation • provides access to the most current resources • enhances creativity • offers variety of usable media • promotes problem solving and critical thinking skills • teaches marketable job skills • provides opportunities for personal growth
1.2.1 Demonstrate the correct set-up and usage of a presentation board/LCD projector, laptop computer/printer, scanner, digital camera, presentation software, handheld data manager, and external electronic storage devices.
1.2.2 Use the laptop computer to prepare a slide show presentation. 1. Open PowerPoint. 2. Use a template to organize your slides or create your own. 3. Include the following information: ____introduction slide with your name, class title and period ____information slide with your birthday, address, email address ____information slide with family members, ages, etc. ____information slide(s) with interests or hobbies, occupation, team sports, club membership/offices held ____reflection slide with thoughts on this assignment 4. Save your presentation on the LSL flash drive. 5. On presentation day, set up the laptop, presentation board and LCD projector. Insert the flash drive into the laptop and use the presentation board to open and present your slideshow. 6. Have someone take your picture while you are presenting. Print out the picture. 7. Print out your slides and place them and your photo in your portfolio.
1.2.3 USING THE HANDHELD DATA MANAGER ***Directions will vary depending on the device that you use.*** These are from the training at Springhill HS in Hope. 1. Tap the START button. 2. Tap the CONTACTS menu. 3. Tap NEW. Enter your information using the keypad. ____Name ____Company (school) ____Work telephone ____E-mail address ____any other info you would like to share 4. Tap OK in the upper left corner. 5. You are back to the contact page. Scroll and find your name. Tap your name and review your information. Make changes if necessary. Tap OK. 6. Tap the word CONTACTS at the top. It changes to START and gives you a list. Tap TODAY. 7. Synchronize with the laptop by attaching the handheld to the laptop with the USB. Open the contact list in Microsoft Outlook. Find your entry. Print it out and put it in your portfolio along with these instructions and a reflection.
1.2.4 USING THE DIGITAL CAMERA ***Directions will vary depending on the device that you use.*** These are from the training at Springhill HS in Hope. 1. Choose an object to photograph. 2. Load a memory stick. 3. Stand in one position to take the following photographs of your object: ____with the zoom all the way out, flash off ____with the zoom all the way in, flash off ____with the zoom set halfway, flash off ____with the zoom set halfway, flash on 4. Remove the memory stick, and insert it in the printer. 5. Print your photographs, all on one page, in color. 6. Mount and label your photographs in your portfolio along with these instructions. 7. Write a reflection, type it, and include it in your portfolio.

You will be provided: *3-ring binder *page protectors *glue stick or double-sided tape *colored paper *scissors Specifications: *keep all handouts *document every activity done in or for this class with pictures, objects, etc. *write a reflective paragraph for every activity *only rough drafts may be hand written; final project must be typed *date everything *neatness counts!
