3. Small Bars - Licensing Snapshot Operate under a new type of hotel licence – a general bar licence
Must have development approval and undergo a community impact statement
Liquor licence application determined by the Casino, Liquor & Gaming Control Authority
Licence can only be issued where the Authority is satisfied that the overall social impact of the proposal will not have a detrimental affect on the community
4. Community Impact Statement Required for most licensing proposals, including general bar licences
Requires consultation with the community and key stakeholders before lodging an application
Enables the Authority to consider the impact of the proposal on the community
Can enable a licensing proposal to be modified to take into account issues raised through the community impact statement process

5. Trading Entitlements Enables a venue to operate as a bar and/or entertainment venue
No prescribed size restrictions for the venue
Under 18s permitted with responsible adult in areas approved by the Authority
Approval can also be sought to include accommodation and to sell liquor at functions away from the premises – requires special approval by the Authority
6. Trading Restrictions No takeaway liquor sales
No gaming (poker machines, TAB, Keno)
Standard trading hours
5am – midnight (Monday – Saturday)
10am – 10pm (Sunday)
minimum six hour closure applies to extended trading proposals
7. Things to know… Application fee for a general bar licence is $500
Fees of up to $3000 apply for late trading approval
Licensee and staff must be RSA trained
Food must be available whenever liquor is served
Prescribed liquor signage must be displayed on the premises
