  4. Sign in & out • When parents/visitors come into the building you are required to sign in at the front office.

  5. Attendance/Late Arrivals If your child is going to be absent, late, getting picked up early, please call the cab company. Please call the classroom by 8am to let staff know.

  6. Mainstream Classes • Most students are signed up for classes. • If students are new to the program we sign them up in January for a non-academic class. • We are sending home individual schedules tonight. • LABBB teachers are the contacts for the mainstream classes. We will address any questions/concerns you have with the teacher.

  7. Mainstream 6 day Schedule

  8. Snacks/Lunch • Snacks cost between $0.50 to $1.75. • Bottled water is $1.00. • The lunch menu is online at http://www.bedford.k12.ma.us/jgms/resources/menu.html • Lunch costs $2.00.  • Super Lunch (larger portion) is $3.00

  9. Homework • Teachers will assign homework Monday through Thursday night.  • It is the student’s responsibility to write down the assignment in his/her agenda book. • Occasionally, there will be a long term project.

  10. Lockers Things kept in locker: • Jacket/Sweatshirt/Hat • Backpack • *Cell Phones * - Taken from the JGMS Student Handbook: • Cell phones, Ipods, MP3 players, personal gaming systems, CD players, laser pointers or any other electronic devices that may interfere with the optimal learning environment should not be utilized inside the school prior to 2:20 p.m. • It is the responsibility of each student to lock up and store all valuables brought to school in their school provided lockers during the school day. • The unauthorized recording of any visual images or audio during the school day, whether it is done through cell phones or other means is prohibited.

  11. Cooking Class • Cooking class will be on Thursdays. • Each Wednesday we will collect $7.00. • Students will still participate in the food preparation, even if they aren’t eating what we prepare in class.

  12. Wallets/Purses • We encourage students to carry a purse and/or wallet. This helps with organization and independence. • This also helps student keep track of their money for snacks, lunch and community.

  13. School Supplies • This year we are going to continue with our academic organizational practice. Students will be required to purchase two 2-inch binders, four packages of tab dividers, a package of lined-paper and one sturdy, plastic coated HW folder.   • In addition, students should have extra pencils, a pencil case/holder, a calculator, two or three highlighters and a large notebook.  • Please help your student remember his/her toothbrush and toothpaste for ADL’s in a toiletry bag. • Some mainstream classes require additional materials. Please see class expectations for list of materials.

  14. Swimming Class • Swimming will take place on Monday morning at Belmont High School. Swimming begins on September 21st. • Please remember to bring in the following items in a swim bag: • 1 towel • Bathing suit • Body Soap • Swimming goggles (optional) • Shampoo/Conditioner • Hair brush/comb  • Deodorant

  15. Breaks • There is a 3-5 minute break after each academic period. • Choices during break: • Talking with peers • Games/Puzzles/Drawing • Bathroom/Drinks/Walk around building/Sensory breaks • Computer Time (with teacher permission) • * If a student has work to make up, mainstream work or homework, break is a time to check in with the teacher and complete it.

  16. Ice Skating • Ice Skating is held each Friday at Hayden in Lexington.  • Students need to bring in their own skates, jacket, hats, gloves, pads and helmets to class. 

  17. Community Trips • Each week the class will be going out into the community on Tuesdays. • Some typical trip destinations: CVS, Stop and Shop, Staples, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Whole Foods, Restaurants, library etc. • Students can purchase snacks however, we recommend healthy choices (water, juice, crackers, trail mix etc).

  18. Classroom Beliefs The JGMS LABBB classroom belongs to staff and students. In order to have an optimal learning environment in which the students know that their voice matters, they have generated a list of classroom beliefs. These are posted on the wall for the entire year with the signature of all members of the class, including the teachers.

  19. Things to Know about School Medical Policies • If your student has medication that needs to be taken at school, there must be a doctor’s order with the corresponding container containing the medication (not your own bottle). • It is also helpful to let staff know if there are any medicine changes at home so we can be aware of any possible behavior changes in school. • If your student has an injury (ex. broken bone), there must be a doctor’s order outlining any physical limitations. • If your student has any changes in his/her medical status at home (ex. seizure activity, medication reactions, etc.) it is important to let staff at school know as well.

  20. H1N1 – Swine Flu • Students with a temperature over 100.4 should stay home. Students will be sent home if they have a temperature 100.4. • They can return to school if they are temperature free after 24 hours. • Nurse will be monitoring all absences and illnesses.

  21. School Cancellation and Delays • Bedford school cancellations and delays are announced in several different ways: • Announced on local radio & TV stations • Posted on the JGMS web site in the news scroller windows on each main page. • Posted on web sites of local radio and TV stations such as: • WCVB TV Channel 5 • WRKO TV Channel 7/WRKO 680AM • WBZ Ch4 / AM1030 • Superintendent Details How School Closing Decisions Are Made

Dates to Remember… Professional Days are aligned with the LABBB calendar, NOT JGMS. • Next Professional Day – September 24 Half day – dismissal at 11:15 Other upcoming Professional Days: October 14 (no school), November 25 (half day), January 14 (half day), March 4 (no school), May 13 (half day), June 21-25 Planning Week (Staff Only)
