  3. Functions of the Urinary System • Production of EPO which is a hormone that instigates rbc production • Help balance the Ph of blood • Your kidney’s in particular help regulate your bp • Helps maintain the iconic make up of your blood/plasma

Vocabulary • Regulation of blood:the kidneys conserve or eliminate water from the blood which regulates the volume of blood in the body. • Regulation of blood pressure: The kidneys regulate blood pressure in 3 ways: • -Adjusting the volume of the blood in the body • -Adjusting the flow of the blood both into, and out, of the kidneys, and • -Via the action of the enzyme rennin. • Renin: which activates the angiotensin-aldosterone pathway. • Erythropoietin: Which stimulates erythropoietin (the production of red blood cells). • Calcitrol:which is the active form of vitamin D.

Facts • The ancient Romans used urine as a bleaching agent for cleaning clothes. • We release about 1 to say 1.5 liters of urine each and everyday. • About 40% of people can smell the odor of urine , the other 60% can’t. • Urine is made up of various salt as well as metabolic wastes , and you can find forms of sugar in your urine(pee) too.
