He worked to get civil rights for black people. • 1955 He led the bus boycott, the first great blacknon violent demonstration in the USA. The boycott lasted 382 days: black people refused to use segregated buses in Montgomery (Rosa Parks).
1956 the Supreme Court of the USA declared segregation on buses unconstitutional. • 1963 MLK organized the peaceful march of Washington DC. 250,000 people listened to his famous speech “I have a dream”.
In his famous speech he talked about his hopes for the future when blacks and whites could be brothers. • 1964 MLK received the Nobel Peace Prize. • 1968 MLK was assassinated.
