What Kind Of Machines Need 2D Project Monitoring? • Typically bulk earthmoving machines • On and Off Road Dump Trucks • Scrapers • Wheeled Loaders
VisionLink Terminology • Project Boundary • Limits of the project • All events at project level are counted and reported once • Site Boundary • The same event at site level may be counted in multiple overlapping Site boundaries • Can be one of the following categories • Cut Zone • Fill Zone • Stockpile • Borrow Pit • Dump Zone • Generic Site
VisionLink Terminology • Candidate • A load or dump event generated automatically by an asset entering a valid site boundary category and stopping • The definition of when an asset is stopped is configurable • Below a speed threshold for a period of time • Valid site boundary categories to generate a load or dump candidate are • Borrow Pit, Cut Zone, Dump Zone, Fill Zone and Stockpile. • The asset needs to be inside a valid site boundary category in order to create a stop/start event i.e. a dump • A stop outside a valid site boundary category (as defined above) including inside the project boundarywill not generate a candidate • Load and dump candidates will not cross daily reporting, they have to occur on the same day
Proximity-based loads • 2D PM setting for loader / hauler with radius • Load Count Report shows loading asset • More accurate than site-only load calculation • Gives user more confidence in load statistics accuracy • Combinations: • Excavator – Truck • Loader – Truck • Dozer – Scraper • Requires SNM940 on loading asset
VisionLink Terminology • Load (or Cut) • Event where material is loaded onto an asset • May include a switched event • Dump (or Fill) • Event where material is dumped from an asset • May include a switched event • Load Count • A unit of measure encompassing a load event to a Dump event
VisionLink Terminology Cycle A unit of measure encompassing a load event in a site boundary to the next load event in the same site boundary. (A cycle may contain many load counts)
VisionLink Terminology • Cut Local: (to this site) • Quantity of material that has been loaded (or cut) then dumped (or filled) within the same site • Cut Outgoing: (to another site) • Quantity of material that has been loaded (or cut) from one site and then dumped (or filled) in another site.
VisionLink Terminology • Cut: Undefined Site • Quantity of material that has been loaded (or cut) in one site and then dumped (or filled) into an undefined area that is not within a site or project boundary
VisionLink Terminology • Fill Local: (from this site) • Quantity of material that has been dumped (or filled) when loaded (or cut) from the same site. • Fill Incoming: (from another site) • Quantity of material that has been dumped (or filled) when loaded (or cut) from another site.
VisionLink Terminology • Fill: Undefined Site • Quantity of material that has been dumped (or filled) when loaded (or cut) from an undefined area that is not within a site or project boundary.
VisionLink Terminology • Time Per Load • Time for a load count i.e. between a load and a subsequent dump event • Average time per load is the sum of times per load divided by the number of loads
VisionLink Terminology • Load Time • Time between site entry and site exit events with a single load event in between • Uses innermost site time to populate outer sites if sites are nested • Average loading time is the sum of load times divided by the number of loads
VisionLink Terminology • Haul Time • Time between a site exit from a load site to the dump event time (with no loads or dumps in between) • Haul Distance • Distance between a site exit from a load site to the dump event
VisionLink Terminology • Cycle Time • Times between consecutive loads in the same site. (A cycle may contain many load counts) • Cycle Distance • Distance travelled between consecutive loads in the same site. (A cycle may contain many load counts)
VisionLink Terminology • Loads per Hour (within a site) • Load events / (working time + idle time) • Volume per Hour (within a site) • (Load events x volume per load) / (working time + idle time)
What are the components of a “Cycle” or “Load” • Load time • Haul (loaded) • Dump is a completed load • Haul return (unloaded) is a completed cycle
How To Measure Load Time • Using a manual switch in the cab • Using a site entry and site exit event to a site boundary (cut zone type)
How To Measure Dump Time • Using a switch on the machine – e.g. a dump switch on the load bed of the machine • Using a Site Entry and Site Exit event to a Site Boundary (Fill Zone Type)
Setting Up A Haul Route Cut Zone Site Boundary Project Boundary Site Boundary (Haul 1) Site Boundary (Haul 2) Fill Zone Site Boundaries Haul 1 = 1x Load = 1x Cycle Report on the Haul Site Boundary Use the Cut Zone and Fill Zone Site Boundaries for Events and Times
Methods Available • Switch to switch • Site to site • Site to switch • Switch to site • Note: • Site boundaries are still used to determine load time and dump time
2D Project Monitoring Concept • Trimble Building Site project • Used Business Center – HCE Site Mass Haul module • Building • Overexcavation 1.5m • Cut first then backfill • Cut goes into fill area • North part of job • Cut - backfills building • Residual goes to fill • Borrow from offsite • Meets deficit volume
Define Project Boundary • Define Cut and Fill Zones • Define Borrow Pits & Waste Sites • Define Haul Zones • Haul 1 – OverexcavateBldg • Haul 2 – Backfill Bldg • Haul 3 – Borrow From Offsite
Mass Haul Planning Take Zone 4 – Zone 5 Cut in Zone 4 = 8941 yd3 Utilize a single CAT 627G Scraper Bowl capacity 12 - 17m3 Target Hauls = 8941/15 = 596 (Target Cycle Count) Average Haul Distance = 428m (Target Cycle Distance = 856m) Average Haul Speed = 30kmh Average Haul Time = 1.72 min Average Load Time = 0.4 min Average Dump Time = 0.6 min Total Cycle Time = 2.72 min Total Haul Time required = 26.98 hrs = ~3.5 days Process does not require 3D Machine Control Just an estimate of machine capacity Knowing the Target Metrics allows us to Monitor effectively
VisionLink Monitored Site Data Entry Zone 4 Cut feeds Zone 1 and Zone 5 Zone 5 Fill is fed by Zones 4,3,5,2 and borrow from offsite
Manage Monitored Sites • Monitored sites belong to a project • Only sites that belong to the currently selected project should be placed on the project dashboard • Each project has its own dashboard of monitored sites • Sites that are shared across multiple projects, e.g. a waste site or borrow pit can be monitored on all of the projects that they are serving as required If you want the monitored site on the dashboard then click the dashboard icon
2D Project Monitoring Set Up and Operation
Project Settings – 2D Monitoring Set up each of the machines you want to monitor in 2D. Assets must be setup before they submit 2D data to the Project.
Setting Up an Asset for 2D Monitoring Asset 2D settings can be edited throughout the project. Cost rates, load count targets and load volumes can be changed and this will retrospectively update project data.
Monitored Sites Dashboards • All projects automatically get a 2D project dashboard • Create monitored sites and add up to 18 to the dashboard • The project counts all loads/dumps that fall within the project boundary
Asset Load Details • Loads • Number of loads moved • Average time per load • Average time from load to dump • Average loading time • Average time in the load site boundary (entry to exit time) • Average haul time (site exit from load site to dump event) • Average time from site exit of Load site to dump event • Volume/load • Manually set value • Total volume • Number of loads x volume/load value
Asset Cycle Details • Cycles • Number of cycles run • Average cycle time • Average time elapsed between consecutive loads in the same site • Average cycle distance • Average distance travelled between consecutive loads in the same site • Average cost / cycle • Average cost of working + idle time / number of cycles run
Detailed Track Plot for 2D PM Loads • Select an asset in load or cycle detail to display • Shows average load path in blue • Shows deviations in red (time, distance, or location) • Callout shows reason for deviation and statistics • Customer can easily find inefficiencies and lost profit
Reporting 2D Data • Report what you see in 2D PM summary view to Excel • Load counts • Haul distances • Cut / fill volumes
Reporting 2D Data • Report what you see in 2D PM load count details and cycle details view to Excel • Load counts per asset • Haul distances • Loading / hauling times • Volumes • Cycles • Cycle times • Cycle costs
