TEIN 2 Action • Contract value 1.250.000 EUR, EC contribution 9.750.000 • Eligible countries are: China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. • Brunei, Japan, South Korea and Singapore invited to participate and finance their own cost • France, Netherlands and United Kingdom partners from EU side

  3. The Purpose • Consolidate the establishment of a regional backbone • Provision of inter-regional links • Help to equalise access to research networking resources • Building the bridge for ICT co-operation • Increase co-ordination in research and education

  4. Role of DANTE and GÉANT • DANTE has extensive regional project experience • Operating GÉANT network • EUMEDCONNECT, CESAR/ALICE, SEEREN • All involving inter-regional and inter-country relations • TEIN 2 an excellent extension of GÉANT • with EC support bringing additional connectivity to Asian countries • fostering regional co-operation

  5. Project plan • Two phase approach: • Pilot phase • Implementation phase • Preparation • Operation

  6. Pilot phase • Duration 6 months • Tasks • Supplier survey • Identifying organisations that will participate. Basis of participation, Contacting the organisations • Exploring their interest and views of the project • Establishment of the relationships between partners • “Letters of Commitment” - at least 3 needed

  7. Phase 2 A - Preparation • Procurement • Use of EU procurement rules • No pre - defined solutions • Network design • Supplier agreements • Arrangements with countries non-eligible • Implementation • Managing the delivery and testing • Delivery of the network

  8. Phase 2B - Operations • Operation management • Development of plans for long term sustainability • Technical support
