Fulbright U.S. Student ProgramTwo Types of Grants Research/Study Grant ~1,000 awards 8-12 months Independent research, study, or creative and performing arts projects abroad English Teaching Assistantships: ~600 awards 8-12 months 20-30 hours a week helping to teach English and U.S. culture in the classroom Remaining time spent on a community-focused project

Eligibility U.S. Citizenship Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (no PhDs) by the start of the grant Proficiency in written & spoken language of host country (varies by country)
General Qualifications High level of academic and/or professional achievement A well-developed project Demonstrated leadership ability Sufficient language proficiency (varies by country) Focus on increasing mutual understanding through community engagement Research/Study Grants
English Teaching Assistantship New countries added each year! Help improve foreign students understanding of English language & U.S. culture Assistant teacher 20-30 hrs/wk K-12 or university/college Side project emphasizing community engagement Often, less language proficiency required at application, but plans to learn language helpful

Critical Language Enhancement Award • Provides additional funding for language study for eligible Fulbright Grantees who intend to use a critical language for their project • Goal to cultivate higher levels of language proficiency prior to, during and beyond the regular Fulbright grant period • Application for CLEA is made in conjunction with the Fulbright Program application

Letters of Affiliation • From a host country contact willing to advise/mentor you • Can be: professional at a university, laboratory, library, community organization, etc. • Signed letter indicating support (on letterhead) • Check the country summary before requesting letter • ETAs DO NOT need affiliations and will be assigned to their host institution
