For Monday • Come up with a product you would like to advertise. (original or improvement) • Decide what demographic your product appeals to (be as specific as you can) • Choose three persuasive techniques to use in your commercial. • Write a detailed description of what will happen in the commercial (setting, characters, action, voiceover…)
Product Name: Grey Poupon Product Description: A mustard that adds more spice and taste than regular yellow mustard and is intended to make the user feel like they are eating fine cuisine. Intended Demographic: 45-65, males and females, upper class, interested in fine dining Commercial: Artistic violin music begins the commercial as we see a vintage Rolls Royce driving down a peaceful country road. The camera cuts to a properly dressed man eating dinner from fine china in the back of the car. A voice over of a stuffy older gentleman comes on saying: “For those who insist on the finer things in life, try Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard.” The camera cuts to the plate of foot with the mustard being poured over top of it. The voice over continues, “Made from the best in French wine and preferred 2-to-1 over the leading yellow mustard, it’s a perfect addition to give your cuisine the taste of elegance.” The camera now shows the car pulling to a stop, and another Rolls Royce drives up beside it. The windows roll down and a man asks “Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?” The other man answers “But of course.” and he hands the mustard across to the other car. The screen freezes on the mustard with the label forward and the voice over ends with “Grey Poupon, one of life’s finer pleasures.”
