Learning Outcomes: • Ascertain what ‘Prevent’ is. • Interpret the word extremism. • Identify what is meant by British Values. • Recognise who to go to if you feel vulnerable or if you feel someone may need help and support.
What is Prevent? • Prevent is the Government’s strategy to stop people becoming involved in violent extremism or support terrorism, in all its forms. • Example of extremist messages This includes hate, crime and criminal damage.
The Government defines extremism as: Any vocal or active opposition to fundamental British Values Democracy - State of society characterised by equality of rights and privileges - Your opinion counts and it can influence changes etc. The rule of law - No one is above the law and it is here to protect us - e.g. Health and Safety, E&D etc. Individual liberty - Freedom of speech, your voice counts, freedom of choice etc. Respect and Tolerance - Respect each other and work together to help each other regardless of backgrounds and cultures, ages, genders, sexualities, religions and beliefs.

What can I do? • If you feel vulnerable or believe that someone is vulnerable to being exploited or radicalised, please use the college’s safeguarding procedures to escalate your concerns. Speak to your tutor or Walk into any office with a BeeSafe sign on it.
