  1. Wrap-Up Jeffrey WalkerDept of Civil and Env Engg The University of Melbourne, Australia Jetse Kalma School of Civil, Surveying and Env Engg The University of Newcastle, Australia Jorg Hacker Airborne Research Australia Flinders University, Australia

  2. Sub Working Groups • Soil moisture Jeff Walker • Irrigation and salinity Hector Malano • Runoff Mark Thyer • Evapotranspiration Helen Cleugh • Carbon budgets Greg Hancock • Forestry Neil Sims • Ecohydrology Patricia Saco • Bushfires Ian Grant • Nutrients and water quality ?? • PrecipitationAlan Seed

  3. Actions • Sub working group leaders to prepare a short outline of what ground/air measurements and infrastructure are required to answer their science questions, approximate $$ needed, and plan for seeking funding etc • Funding shortfall for LIDAR – needed for pretty much everything … • Funding for: • hyperspectral scanner • irrigation and salinity? • forest • carbon/water/energy fluxes for NAFE’06 • OASIS did fluxes well but not soil moisture, NAFE is doing soil moisture well but not fluxes. Need to ensure we don’t miss out on fluxes …!!! • Request 6sec archive of sonde (Williamtown and Wagga) and high res orbiter data from BoM

  4. Proposed Timeline: NAFE ’05 • Sub working group “needs” outline 1 Mar • Sub project work plans 1 Apr • Campaign participant commitment 1 Apr • Additional permanent infrastructure installed 1 May • Data request/usage statements 1 Aug • Plan for field logistics (ie accomodation etc) 1 Sep • Additional campaign infrastructure installed 24 Oct • Start campaign 31 Oct • Raw NAFE ’05 data 1 Feb • NAFE ’05 / ’06 Workshop (2 day) ? Feb • Processed NAFE ’05 data (QC, Tb not MC etc) 1 Jul

  5. Funding • ARC-DP due end Feb • Write $$ into that now • ARC-LIEF due late April • Large collaborative University equip. • L-band Radar -- $650k • Melb/CSIRO Collab grants ($30k/yr) • Land & Water Australia (LWA) • Other ?

  6. Questions? • Need for another NAFE ’05 workshop ? • Need and date for a 2-day NAFE ’05 / ’06 workshop ? • Review data from NAFE ’05 • Plan for NAFE ’06 given experience • Other ?
