  12. 10 6. Waste Reduction • UC Davis took first place in the national EPA Game Day Challenge • Diverted the most waste (90%) of any college football stadium in the country (Ohio State was 2nd at 68%) Target for solid waste diversion from landfills: 2008: 50%; 2012: 75%; 2020: 100%

Sustainable Purchasing • 23% of purchases through system-wide contracts meet one or more sustainable product criteria (up from 12% in 2009) • 85% of total multi-use paper purchases have 30% or more recycled content (compared with 66% in the previous fiscal year) • Data collection on sustainable purchases is still uneven, making it difficult to compare numbers from one year to the next • Efforts in 2011 will focus on improving the quantitative and qualitative reporting of sustainable products UC encourages and tracks the use of EPEATTM, ENERGY STARTM, and Green SealTM-certified products

UCSD received $33 million for clean energy research using the campus as a living lab UCSC received $180,000 in grants for Sustainability Internship Program UCD, UCI, UCM, and UCSD received grants to develop mixed renewable energy technologies on campus UCLA received $20 million to use the campus as a living lab for smart grid research International Association of Research Universities sustainability student exchange UCB Sustainability Office sent students to U. Cambridge and U. Tokyo UCB hosted students from U. Oxford and U. Copenhagen 13 8. Student/Faculty/Staff Collaboration UCSB office greening team receives award at CA Higher Education Sustainability Conference UCSD course installs micro-weather research station on campus buildings
