Makes this climate particularly rainy.
Winds blow in from the Pacific, rise as they hit cm and cool causing precipand bring rain with them. This happens again slightly inland.

Compared to the east side of the state, the west is relatively dry.
By the time the winds have reached the east, the clouds have passed over big mntns. and dumped their contents.
