Information Processing • Can be linked to: • Performance (during game) • Analysing and developing performance
Performance Example… • Hockey • Input – Ball is passed to you and there are defenders and teammates around • Decision Making – You decide to play a hit pass to your forward • Output – You play a hit pass in the direction of the forward • Feedback – The pass is intercepted, because you had delayed the pass and played it too soft
Describe an example of Information Processing • Input – You are last defender. Opponents attacking in a 2v1 situation. (can add more in if you wish – where you are, teammates etc…) • Decision Making-? - Want to force attacker away from goals, hold up attack and wait for support • Output-? - Angle body between two attacker’s to block pass, jockey away from goals slowly in 1v1 situation • Feedback-? - Attacker forced to turn back and pass to other attacker, teammate back, 2v2 situation, tackle and blocked shot
Linked to Stage of Learning • The higher the level you are performing at, the greater the depth of your ability to process information • Key features: • Experience • Information • Decisions • Feedback
Linked to Analysis + Development of Performance • When you analyse and then train to develop your performance, the information process is of significant use. This time through: • Input • Decision Making • Output • Evaluation
Input • Information received about your performance through: • Analysis – Match and Movement • Feedback – Kinaesthetic, Visual and Verbal • Knowledge of Results
After Analysis… • Decision Making – Identifying strengths and weaknesses and prioritise what to work on. Decide practices to do. • Output – Implement your programme of work ensuring practice is progressive and practised effectively. • Evaluation – Review each practice – remediation or progressions? Depends on progress made.

Task • In two’s: • One think about Information processing linked to: • Performance (during game) • Analysing and developing performance (training). • Jot down some notes / look over notes • Verbally describe the link to your partner
When learning or developing a skill or technique, discuss the importance of information processing (4marks) • What to put in Answer: • Diagram of the model at start of answer. • BRIEF description of what model is (IPM) and each stage. • Then either description of IPM in relation to Analysis and development of Performance (Whole 8 weeks). What you did at each stage. • OR • Description from an example practice and how you worked through each stage of the IPM.
