New Jersey Traffic Safety Learning Progression Component Grade 10 Driver Education Ms Bohan
Background (DHS, CDC 2010) Developmental Background:Teens have already reached 95% of their adult height ( DHS, 2010.) Their thought process enables them to concentrate under stress and cause-effect relationships are better understood than with young teens. This age group is very self-absorbed and often encounters conflicts with family members due to the emerging need for independence. Injury Prevention Strategies:Adolescents are affected by serious health and safety issues including motor vehicle crashes, violence, substance use, and unsafe sex. They struggle with adopting behaviors that could decrease their risk of developing chronic diseases in adulthood (Centers for Disease Controls and Prevention, 2010).
